In line with our country’s goal of becoming an energy hub, Hatay witnessed another historical day. Ertuğrul Gazi, Türkiye's first FSRU vessel, which is a giant investment in providing flexibility in energy supply security and ensuring resource diversity and built for BOTAŞ, was put into service on June 25, 2021 at BOTAŞ Dörtyol Terminal located in Dörtyol district of Hatay.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Mr. Fatih DÖNMEZ, BOTAŞ General Manager Mr. Burhan ÖZCAN, and AKP Hatay MP Hacı Bayram TÜRKOĞLU attended the ceremony during which our President Mr. Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN was connected to the Ertuğrul Gazi FSRU vessel via video conference.
Depending on the Need It Can Serve at Dörtyol or Saros Terminals
In his speech during Ertuğrul Gazi FSRU vessel commissioning ceremony, President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, noted the following for Türkiye's first FSRU: “Ertuğrul Gazi vessel, built with the latest technology in its class, and with a daily gasification capacity of 28 million cubic meters will be able to serve at Dörtyol or Saros terminals, depending on the need.. Another feature of Ertuğrul Gazi, the first FSRU vessel to serve under our own flag, is its ability to directly load trucks, tanks and ships.”
Able to Meet More than 10% of Our Country's Annual Natural Gas Need
Stating that the Ertuğrul Gazi FSRU vessel, which will enable the use of natural gas without depending on the pipelines, will provide Türkiye with significant flexibility against fluctuations especially in winter months, President Erdoğan continued his words as follows: “With regards to its gasification capacity, this vessel, which is 295 meters long and 46 meters wide, has the opportunity to meet more than 10 percent of our country's natural gas needs. I wish this investment that we brought to our country through BOTAŞ to be beneficial."
We Are Developing an Energy Policy That Extends to the Future
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Fatih Dönmez, who attended the opening ceremony from BOTAŞ Dörtyol FSRU Terminal in Hatay, wished Ertuğrul Gazi FSRU vessel, which will contribute to Türkiye's natural gas supply security, to bring blessings to Türkiye and our nation.
“We are adding another important link to our natural gas supply security with our ship Ertuğrul Gazi FSRU, which we will be officially inaugurating today. We commissioned the first of the FSRU ships owned by 18 countries in the world, at the end of 2016, in İzmir Aliağa, again with the presence of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN. After 2 years of work, we are experiencing the joy of putting our Ertuğrul Gazi FSRU vessel into service from the Dörtyol Terminal of BOTAŞ in Hatay. With its 110 million cubic meters of storage and 28 million cubic meters of gasification capacity, Ertuğrul Gazi will add significant flexibility to our supply security."
First Gas Filling Operation to Be Performed on 29 June
Dönmez stated that they will quickly be able to transfer the ship to the region where it is needed thanks to its fast integration into the system and its high mobility, and he said "Thus, we will quickly create new entry points in regions where consumption is high. We will realize Ertuğrul Gazi's first gas filling operation, namely LNG transfer from ship to ship, on 29 June.”
Dönmez thanked our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, who supported them in every project, and the Ministry, especially BOTAŞ executives, who contributed to the acquisition of the Ertuğrul Gazi ship in Türkiye, and all the employees who worked there.
After his speech, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Mr. Fatih DÖNMEZ, AKP Hatay MP Hacı Bayram TÜRKOĞLU, General Manager of BOTAŞ Mr. Burhan ÖZCAN and other participants cut the opening ribbon of the facility upon the instruction of President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN.
